Week 6
I was pleased to read that you all feel you've made a good decision by choosing SAL. Your blogs expressed your thorough research and discussions with others before you made this big life-changing commitment to live and study abroad. For this week, I want to continue with a "process" question. How did you choose what career you want to pursue? If you haven't chosen your career or field of study yet, what steps do you plan to take to do so?

Actually, the career I chose followed my major in university. Before we enter a university, we have to take a joint university entrance examination. And then we need to fill a form that is about the order of which departments and which universities I want to study in. It is very important to decide the order according to both of what field I am interested in and the scores I got. After few weeks, the organization which is charge of joint university entrance examination will announce exactly which is my school. For me, the answer was electronic engineering just as I expected. I chose it because it is a popular one, even though I did not know whether I like it or not then. I am only sure of that electronic engineering needs a lot of math and physic and these two subjects are my strength. As a result, I became an electronic engineer after four years studying in university and two years getting master degree.
Before I chose what job I want, first things that I thought are my interests and talents. Since I entered to my university, I have thought Computer Science, which is my major, is really difficult and boring to me. However, last semester, when I took a class about security of virus, I felt this field is interesting. Also, nowadays, there are lots of problem about security of personal information in Korea. After I knew it, I searched what the job name is. The answer was CSO, Chief Security Officer. It is the best and most important position of security manager in company. For getting this job in the future, I have to know about not only Computer Science but also Hacking. Until now, I just took one class which related to it, so I will take more classes in my university. Then, after finishing my university, I want to get a master degree of Security. I know it will be hard time to study, but I hope I will be the CSO, especially in the Silicon Valley.
In Korea high school, we should choose one of three part of field before become a second grade. One part is about language and history, the other part is about science and another part is about art. That time I was so confused between what I can do well and what I want to do. I was good at history and writing, but I liked science. Finally, I chose science what I like. When I was in third grade in high school, I had to choose again about my major in university. I wanted to major in natural science but I stiil had to choose spesific subject. I was good at biology and chemistry but I liked physics. I was confused again but also I chose what I like. Then my major is physics now and I am under graduate yet. I don't decide my career yet but maybe I will decide what I like to do again even if I can't do well.
Actually, I haven't chose a my career yet even though I have thought about many choices what will I do in the future for few years and I will be a senior next year. However, I am still thinking about my career. There is several steps to choose my career in the future. First of all, I have to think about my major in university and my talents or abilities. If my major is related with engineering, I have to find some job in that part. The other step is I have to concern about not only in few years also in over 10 years. Nowadays, women still work after they got married though, so I have to think about my far future. Most important thing is my passion to the job or your career. If I don't have any passion or desire to work, it is not good choice. Moreover, I have to feel proud of my job and myself. This step is most important thing to choose my career. If you want to do something, you can do everything even though that is hard to get. Do something that you really want to do!!
Since I was young, before I chose my major, I had had a dream of being a doctor. However, when I entered a high school, I recognized it is a vague dream. Then I thought about what I can do well and what I like to do. I didn’t have a particular subject that I could do well except math. Although I didn’t study science well, I like to study it. In high school, we should choose a field between science department and department of liberal arts. Therefore, I chose the science department. The more I studied science, the more I felt satisfied and interested in it. After I took the test that I need to take to apply for an university, I decided my major, electric-electrical engineering, among the science majors. I am studying this major, and satisfied with my major. I think it was right decision.
In my case, the answer is as ridiculous as simple. To begin with, my major is electronic engineering. Before I began to study my major, I was interested in computer sciences. At that time, I wanted to learn about computer program and make a beautiful and unbelievable fun game. However, my mind was changed to study electronics for just one reason. The reason was that there were too many people who programmed well although their major was not computer sciences, so I would not get a job easily after graduated my university. After I entered my university, I satisfied my choice and studied hard. Since I graduated my school, I have had pride about my major. For final comment, if I came back to the past when I made a decision about my major, I would choose it again.
What is your dream and how could you get that? It’s a simple question for everyone, but, actually, it isn’t easy for me to figure out. In my opinion, the first thing that I figure out is the job which is not only a dream but also my future. First of all, I have to choose something I like because I believe that the most efficient performance always comes from the preference and desire. For me, I prefer to be in a business world, so I have to choose which job is the most suitable. A few years ago, after I could decide that I would like to work in a financial institute, such as a bank, or a security firm, I prepared myself for that as best as I can. Primarily, I attended a Master’s degree in Business Management because I graduated in a Bachelor of Science before. It was quite a challenging task for me about this because the study field was absolutely changed. Next, after I already got the Master, I worked at a local bank in Thailand. I’ve worked there about two years and a half; meanwhile, I got a lot of good experiences and useful knowledge. Then, I quitted my job to study an English program further. That’s why I’ve been here, at SAL. Lastly, I’ll bring this skill back to work in my country and in the financial field of work furthermore. Eventually, I hope I will get either more successful and better chance of advancement in my future as well.
This is Julia B. I think if some one knows and find what they really want to do for future career is a very lucky man. A lot of people, like me, are still trying to find out what we like to do in our life. If you are the one know what you are looking for then you can skip the first step-“find out what is your passion and interest”. As for me, I still looking and guessing what might be best career for myself. I know I have passion in art file but I also don’t want be a poor artist who can not afford the rent and have to live on the street. That’s way my second steps is going to art school. For instance, it will help me to learn more art skills and know more people in that industry. Moreover, I will have a clear idea about what is the job I want to choose as my career. After that, it will be to find a nice company that I want to join which also pay a good amount of money and have nice co-works to work with in the office. Eventually, the hope is to do my dream job until I die. Wow! That’s a happy ending!
Many people’s careers follow their majors in the university because they are familiar with their majors. In Taiwan, when you’re in high school, you can choose either science or liberal art which you want to be your major in the university. On that time, It’s just a rough classify because you need to study varied curriculums for the national placement test which can divide all students into different not only school but also major. If you choose science you need to study chemistry and physics, even biology. If you choose liberal art, you should focus on geography and history. Meanwhile, I chose science because my logical analysis is better than memory. After the university entrance test, you will get a list, and then you can choose your major and university on it. However, it also depend on you test score. For example, in fact, I chose electrical engineering for my major because my score can help me to apply for it. Now I want to got a master degree here, and then be a engineer here.
These days I have not yet determine my future career. However, I am now choosing a major and it is a very important step that relates to my future career. Therefore, I am choosing my major very cautiously. First of all, I have to think about what my potentials are. It is always better if we have the talent related in career of interest. If I don't have the talent in what I am doing, I feel frustrated sometimes. Thus, value my potential is my first step. Second step is looking for something that is closer to my hobby. When we have interested in something, we are more willing to do it or learn it. Therefore, during the period of studying it, we will enjoin in it. In brief, I will choose my career with these steps that I have shown. Follow those steps I wish I will choose the correct major in the future.
When I was young, my dream was that to know what I want. Then, this young boy who had no dream grew to be a 23years old guy. Now, however, to be an air logistics manager is my dream. Before, I graduated high school, still my dream was hazy. However, I could have a dream first time when I entered my university. At that time, my first dream was to be an air traffic controller because my major was air traffic. It was fantastic for me to control many airplanes in control tower, but this first dream was changed to air logistics manager. As I studied more, I felt that air logistics manager is better for me instead of air traffic controller. Accordingly, now my major is air logistics management. After graduate university, I want to work at international airport in the near future. Thus, I’ll do my best to get my dream.
Everyone may have been thinking about future job. I was seriously worried as well. I already had a job. I worked for Mercedes-Benz as a car engineer in Korea. I satisfied with my occupation. And I want to get a job in US. In my case, my hobby had a crucial influence on my job. Moreover, my major was influenced by the hobby. I was interested in cars from childhood. I entirely liked about a car. My dream is car dealer president. I will prepare for something to become a car dealer president. I think that I need three things to achieve. The first thing is English. English is one of the important things that should be required in Korea. If I can speak English very well, I will get a good job. And I will get the more chances of the promotion than any other people. Second, it’s interest of the field. I think it’s very important thing. If you don’t have interest in your job, you will be unhappy. I was interested in cars from childhood. Third, it’s the possibility of future growth. It is a question which demands our serious consideration. We judge that the company is well run and shows potential for steady growth. And we have more time for self-improvement. In conclusion, when we select our job, we should consider of our interest in that job and possibilities that fits to ourselves.
In my country, most people choose thier carrers depended om their majors. We had taken a national examination to enter the university, at the smae time, the major is decided. To prepare that big test is very important for every student in Taiwan. Thus,I also have that experience to prepare the examination and to decide the feture road. At fist, accordind to my grades, I chose some subjct I am insterested in and I can get higher score. Then I ask some relative's experience and opinions in deifferent fields. Finally, got the imformation from news or ecnomic magazines because I should choose the way easy yo find a job. After these processes, the goal, physic,is decided. All things have to do is persue this goal by my best preparation.
I think my undergraduate major has an immediate effect on my career. Because my father helped me choose computer science for my major, after I gradutered, I found a job in the software company. In the first and a half year, my responsibility was writing codes. Then, my company asked my to implement an Enterprise Resource Plan system. During this time, I began to know the flows about the manufactory's operation. I found I like the job about management. I found it was very interesting and everyday you need to focus on different problems and challenges. I like it. As the result, I came to America for studing more knowledge to help me develop my future. Moreover, I plan to study master program about production quality assurance in industry system and engineer department because I think production quality assurance is the most important part in the manufactory management. It fits every kinds of products. Therefore, I want to use two year to finish my master degree. After that, I will find a job in bay area to increase my experiences for developing my cureer in my home country.
